Version
This document was based on Version 7.21.1 of cURL.

Objective
This document provides information on how to install and configure cURL to connect to III Software's secure FTP server. cURL is an open source application sponsored by Haxx and also available through SourceForge.Net. To simplify the installation, a 'ready to intall' version is also hosted here on our site. This document will only describe the steps needed to connect to our server, it does not attempt to teach you how to use this 3rd party application. You can find more information on the cURL Man Page.

Overview
cURL is a package of several tools. Specifically for this discussion, cURL is a free, command-line FTP client supporting both secure and unsecure transfers. The documentation provided here will utilize the secure transfer features of cURL. Although this is a command line client, it can also be used for drag-n-drop transfers (explained later in this document).

Installation
Although you can download the software from either SourceForge.Net or from Haxx, these instructions assume you use the version hosted on our site. The version on our site includes several files to speed your configuration of cURL. Follow these steps to install cURL from our site.

  1. Download cURL installation file.
  2. Execute the program you just downloaded (curl-7.21.1.exe)
  3. You will be asked where to unpack the files. The default will be c\curl. We recommend you leave the default.
  4. Press the "Unzip" button.
  5. When the process completes, a popup will show the number of files unzipped. Press the "OK" button.
  6. Press the "Close" button

Configure the Server
Follow these steps to configure cURL to work with III Software's server.

  1. Open "My Computer", "Local Disk (C Drive)", "curl"
  2. Open the file "Server.txt" (double-click)
  3. On the line starting with user, change "MyID" to be your FTP login ID. Replace "MyPassword" with your ftp password. Ensure there is no space between the id, the colon and the password.
    Example: user MyID:mypassword
  4. From the menu, select File, Save then File, Close

Configure Drag-n-Drop Feature
Follow these steps to place an icon on your desktop. You will be able to drag one or more files onto the desktop icon and have them transferred automatically (and securely) to the server.

  1. Open "My Computer", "Local Disk (C Drive)", "curl"
  2. Right-click on the "Drag-n-Drop-FTP.cmd" item, select Copy.
  3. Right-click on an empty portion of your desktop and select "Paste Shortcut"

Configure Upload Folder Feature
Follow these steps to place an icon on your desktop. You will be able to put one or more files in the c\curl\upload directory, double-click the folder-upload icon and have all those files transferred automatically (and securely) to the server.

  1. Open "My Computer", "Local Disk (C Drive)", "curl"
  2. Right-click on the "Folder-Upload.cmd" item, select Copy.
  3. Right-click on an empty portion of your desktop and select "Paste Shortcut"
